Jerry Fox Honored at MPA Alumni Event

Categories: Announcements

The MPA Program had a tremendous turnout for our annual Alumni Event on August 1 at UNCC Center City. Alumni, faculty, and many more gathered to network, support the program, and honor its namesake, Gerald (Jerry) Fox. From 1980 to 2000, Jerry served as the Mecklenburg County Manager, and after his retirement, he joined the MPA program as a part-time faculty member. Later, Jerry was a founding member of the UNCC Practitioner Advisory Board, an organization dedicated to supporting the MPA program and its students.

Founded in 1976 as the Master of Urban Administration program, the program was renamed the Gerald G. Fox Master of Public Administration in 2012. Since the 2012 naming, and the establishment of the Fox Endowment Fund, the program has flourished in no small part due to his leadership and support.

At the Alumni Event, MPA Alum and Chair of the Mecklenburg County Board of Commissioners George Dunlap presented Jerry with a county proclamation declaring August 1, 2019 “Jerry Fox Day” in Mecklenburg County.

The UNC Charlotte Gerald G. Fox Master of Public Administration program looks forward to many more years of the “Jerry Fox spark!”
